Nonlinear microwave impedance of short and long Josephson junctions

چکیده
The nonlinear dependence on applied ac field (bv) or current (iv) of the microwave ~ac! impedance Rv 1iXv of both short and long Josephson junctions is calculated under a variety of excitation conditions. The dependence on the junction width is studied, for both field symmetric ~current antisymmetric! and field antisymmetric ~current symmetric! excitation configurations. The resistance shows steplike features every time a fluxon ~soliton! enters the junction, with a corresponding phase slip seen in the reactance. For finite widths the interference of fluxons leads to some interesting effects which are described. Many of these calculated results are observed in microwave impedance measurements on intrinsic and fabricated Josephson junctions in the high temperature superconductors. When a dc field (bdc) or current (idc) is applied, interesting phase locking effects are observed in the ac impedance Zv . In particular an almost periodic dependence on the dc bias is seen similar to that observed in microwave experiments at very low dc field bias. These results are generic to all systems with a cos(f) potential in the overdamped limit and subjected to an ac drive. @S0163-1829~99!00610-4#

Microwave Frequency Power Dependence in High - Tc Thin Films , Grain Boundaries
A comprehensive study of the dc and rf electrodynamic properties of YBa 2 Cu 307-, (YBCO) thin films, grain boundaries and Josephson junctions (JJ) is presented. The surface impedance Z, = R, + iX, of YBCO thin films is shown to have a dependence on rf current, which leads to nonlinear power losses at levels of rf power that are relevant for device applications. To understand the loss mechanism...

We have investigated macroscopic quantum tunneling in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ intrinsic Josephson junctions at millikelvin temperatures using microwave irradiation. Measurements show that the escape rate for uniformly switching stacks of N junctions is about N times higher than that of a single junction having the same plasma frequency. We argue that this gigantic enhancement of macroscopic quantum tun...

A tight binding approach based on the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach has been used to calculate the DC Josephson current for a lattice model for S-GNR-S junctions , for short junctions with respect to superconducting coherence length. We calculate the phase, length, width and chemical potential dependence at the Josephson junction and discuss the similarities and differences with regard to the t...

متن کاملNonlinear Microwave Switching Response of Bscco Single Crystals
Measurements of the surface impedance, Zs, in Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca 1 Cu 2 O 8+ single crystal with microwave currents owing along the ^ c axis show clear evidence of a step-like nonlinearity. The surface resistance switches between apparently quantized levels for microwave eld strength changes of less than 1 mG. This non-linear response can arise from the presence of intrinsic Josephson junctions along...
